Biography

Alanis Nadine Morissette was born in Ottawa in 1974, into a family with Hungarian and French-Canadian roots. Since her early years, the girl wanted to become only a singer. She started to play the piano at age six. Alanis wrote her first song in 1984 and sent it to local folk-singer Lindsey Morgan, who proposed his help to the artist. When Alanis visited New York, she learned about the popular USA talent show Star Search and decided to take part in it - but she lost after the first tour. In 1988, Alanis singed a deal with MCA Publishing and got down to her first record. Under the pseudonym Alanis, she released the self-titled dance pop album only in Canada where it got the twice-platinum status. In the same 1991, she created the follow-up Now Is The Time, which featured ballad-type compositions with more sincere and deep lyrics. The disc was also released only in Canada and reached less success than its predecessor. In 1993, Alanis moved to Toronto to be acquainted to the local musical circles. However, the artist was disappointed at the results and moved to Los Angeles.
