EMI gave up plans to sell Abbey Road studios. According to the recently released statement, legendary studio will stay under company’s ownership. However, according to the same statement, EMI is currently in talks with several charity funds which may provide funding for «Abbey Road revitalization project».
Yesterday UK government has named Abbey Road studios a Grade 2 listed building. It means that all alterations to the outside of the building must be approved by the officials.
Earlier it was announced that EMI Group has to disown Abbey Road studio due to financial problems – the company recently reported an annual loss of £1.5 billion. EMI was going to sell both the property and the brand name. According to the reports, company’s profit was set exceed £1 billion.
Abbey Road was originally bought by EMI for £100,000 in 1929 and became the world-famous studio. The list of artists who worked here includes The Beatles, Oasis, Radiohead and many more. Sir Paul McCartney and Andrew Lloyd Webber were among those who urged to save studio.
