U2 revealed that injury suffered by the band’s frontman Bono during the rehearsals last week could have been permanent without quick medical help. However, according to the guitarist The Edge, Bono was hoping to deal with it by himself.
«Luckily enough he did realize at a certain point, I think when he could no longer walk, that he needed to go to the doctor. Had he not done anything about it, it could have been serious and possibly permanent», said The Edge about Bono’s injury.
The accident happened on May 21. Singer has undergone emergency surgery and is currently receiving treatment.
Bono’s injury already forced U2 to cancel 17 shows this summer, including headlining performance at Glastonbury festival. Today it was announced that the band’s spot was taken by Gorillaz. Damon Albarn, the creator of the cartoon band, wished Bono would recover as soon as possible.
«It's a terrible thing for U2. Gorillaz will come to life on that stage, but we wish Bono all the best», claimed he.
Dizzee Rascal, Lady GaGa, Led Zeppelin, Coldplay, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, The Chemical Brothers and a number of other acts were named earlier as a possible replacements for U2.
