Eminem's former record label has won a legal battle with Universal MusicRecord label FBT Productions, which worked with Eminem in 1990's, has won a legal battle against Universal Music. According to the decision by District Court for the Central District of California, Universal owes FBT money that it has made from digital sales of Eminem's music.

Eminem signed contract with FBT Productions in 1995 before becoming famous. Record label agreed to pass the rights on his music to Universal in 1998 on the behalf of having a percentage of money gained from its sales.

Recently, Universal refused to pay royalties from digital sales saying that they were not mentioned specifically in the contract. Company has won legal battle with FBT this spring, but this decision was reversed recently.

Now Universal must pay FBT several million dollars.

Eminem's last album Recovery was sold 741,000 copies in its first week. It is the most successful debut of this year, says Nielsen SoundScan. Moreover, it's the best first-week sales since October 2008, when Black Ice by AC/DC has achieved the result of 784,000 in the opening seven days.
