English Football Association announced that the national football team will go to the Fifa World Cup 2010 in South Africa without an official song. English players will not have an official track for the first time since this tradition was established 44 years ago.
According to English Football Association spokesperson, team’s management decided not to choose an official song «to be fully focused on the football».
The tradition of naming the official song for national football team each four years originated in 1966, after England’s first and only World Cup victory. For example, in 1998 the anthem was (How Does It Feel To Be) On Top Of The World by Spice Girls, in 2002 – We're On The Ball by Ant & Dec, in 2006 – World At Your Feet by Embrace.
Some English fans suggest that new version of New Order's track World In Motion may be considered as an unofficial anthem for 2010. Original track was team’s official song in 1990.
