Guitar Hero series CEO Dan Rosensweig has answered the claims by Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic. Both ex-Nirvana members were displeased with the way Activision used Kurt Cobain’s image in the new Guitar Hero 5 videogame. According to the musicians, they agree that players can use Cobain while performing two Nirvana’s songs, Smells Like Teen Spirit and Lithium, but they were against making Cobain a playable character.
Later, Cortney Love joined them – former Kurt Cobain’s wife, who controls singer's estate, said she was going to sue the creators of the game.
However, Dan Rosensweig claimed that Activision received an agreement from Cortney Love during the work on the game. «It's really not Guitar Hero's confusion. We went and spoke directly to the estate and made it crystal clear, got the rights, paid for the rights, and really we've done what we've always done», claimed he.
According to Rosensweig, Grohl and Novoselic should talk to Cortney Love first: «The fact that the rest of the band and the estate did not communicate – I'm not aware of those facts».
