The special poll held by a U.S. company Music Choice praised Live Aid concert as the most important music event for last 30 years. The charity gig was organized in July 1985 to raise money for starving people in Ethiopia.
Performed simultaneously at the Wembley Stadium in London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia, it became the largest-scale television broadcast of all time with 400 million viewers. Organizers raised about $283.6 million.
The concert featured performances by Madonna, Elton John, The Who, Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones and a lot of other artists.
The list of most important music events of last 30 years also included launch of downloadable music, the creation of iPhone, Take That’s and Spice Girls’s split up as well as Michael Jackson’s and Kurt Kobain’s deaths.
