Rage Against The Machine will play a special concert to protest against the controversial immigration law that passed in Arizona this spring. This bid, named SB 1070, allows policemen to challenge each person they suspect of being an illegal immigrant. Those who can not prove their status will be arrested and put into jail.
Upcoming event is set to take place in Los Angeles on July 23. Rage Against The Machine will be joined by Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst. Some more acts will be announced later.
Rage Against The Machine already formed the protest group named The Sound Strike – it features musicians who promised not to perform in Arizona until the law is canceled.
The list of artists who joined the boycott features System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian, Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails, My Morning Jacket, Sonic Youth, Cypress Hill, Maroon 5, Massive Attack and a huge number of other artists.
Speaking about this law, Rage Against The Machine frontman Zack de la Rocha said: "Some of us grew up dealing with racial profiling, but this law takes it to a whole new low. If other states follow the direction of the Arizona government, we could be headed towards a pre-civil rights era reality. This unjust law was set into motion by the same Arizona government that refused to acknowledge Martin Luther King Jr day as a national holiday".
