Susan Boyle's new album I Dreamed A Dream has sold over 410,000 copies in its first seven days in Britain. It is the best result for any debut record of any artist in the UK ever. The previous achievement was co-held by Leona Lewis’ Spirit and Arctic Monkeys’s Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, each sold over 360,000 copies in first week.
I Dreamed A Dream also became the fastest-selling record of 2009. Currently it is ranked fourth in the list of the best first week’s sales in Britain history, next to Be Here Now by Oasis, X&Y by Coldplay and The Circus by Take That.
Susan Boyle, aged 48, came to international public attention in April 2009 through the Britain's Got Talent TV show and soon became known as «singing housewife». Although never been a professional singer, she quickly became recognized for her powerful voice.
