The 2004’s song Do They Know It's Christmas? was named the biggest selling Christmas single of 00’s in the UK. The track was placed on the first place of the special chart by The Official Charts Company, an organization that tracks music sales in Britain.
The second place was given to 2003’s Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) by The Darkness, while The Pogues' Fairytale Of New York became third (originally recorded in 1984, it was included in chart due to digital reissue in 21st century).
Do They Know It's Christmas? was originally released during the same 1984 by a group of artists under the name Band Aid. Their aim was to raise money for starving people in Ethiopia. Composition was reissued several times by the different musicians – in 2004 it was Band Aid 20, which featured U2, Snow Patrol, Sugababes, Coldplay, Robbie Williams and many others.
The Top-5 Christmas songs of the 21st century also features Proper Crimbo by Bo Selecta and Last Christmas by Wham.
