Chad Smith, The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer, spoke about the work on the band’s next studio album. According to his words, he and his companions have finished writing new songs, and will enter to the studio within few weeks.
«Pre-production will take a few months, but I'd say by July we'll be laying down real tracks. We have a lot of material, probably about 20 songs», claimed he.
Upcoming album will be The Red Hot Chili Peppers first record to feature new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. He replaced John Frusciante, who left the band last year.
«We were sad to see John leave the band, but he has to do what he wants and follow his path. Josh Klinghoffer is a real creative force. He's going to play guitar, he's going to write music, he's going to sing and play keyboards», said drummer.
Chad Smith denied rumors that the record would be influenced by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, who has recently collaborated with Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist Flea. Smith also claimed that the new album would feature a lot of improvised songs.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers last to date studio record Stadium Arcadium hit the stores in 2006.
