The Strokes said the work on their new album was "awful"Nick Valensi, guitarist of the English rock band The Strokes, claimed that the work on their new album Angles was "awful". According to his words, he did not like the process and was sure that the record would become a failure.

"I won't do the next album we make like this. No way. It was awful – just awful", said he.

However, Angles received very high marks from critics. For example, Rolling Stone magazine described it as "the best album that The Strokes have made since 2001's Is This It, the cannonball that inaugurated the modern-garage era".

The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas has decided to leave his bandmates when they were working on Angels. According to the singer, it was a necessary step to let them concentrate on music.

"To get everyone to really collaborate and step in, it really takes me to step back from it all. Like fully step back. I think I just wanted to wait until they'd done their thing so I could do mine", claimed he.

Bassist Nikolai Fraiture revealed that the sound of the record became a mix of The Strokes' two previous albums.

"Sonically, I feel it's the album which should have been made between 2003's Room On Fire and 2006's First Impressions Of Earth. It has our classic sound", claimed he.
