The XX's sales up by 500% after receiving Mercury PrizeSales of The XX's debut album XX increased on over 500% the next day after British indie rockers has won Mercury Prize award. The band has got the honor during the ceremony last Tuesday, on September 7. The number of people willing to buy their debut studio effort – which hit the stores in August 2009 – has begun to increase greatly next day.

Mercury Prize is an annual music prize awarded for the best album from the United Kingdom or Ireland. It has a reputation for being awarded to outside chances rather than the favorites. However, it is often observed that bands who are nominated for, or win the prize, experience a large increase in album sales.

The list of this year's nominees also included such artists as Paul Weller, Wild Beasts, Biffy Clyro, Foals and Dizzee Rascal.

The XX already announced that they would like to spend £20,000 prize money on building their own studio. The band's singer Oliver Sim said: "We made album XX in a converted garage at our record label. We felt very lucky at the time to use it, but I think we’d love to make our own studio, somewhere where we can just experiment".
