Achtung Baby album by U2 has topped the chart of the Most Influential Records In Past 25 Years, based on the special poll by Spin Magazine. It went ahead of Prince's record Sign O, which became second, and The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths, which has got the third place.
Top-5 also features Nirvana's Nevermind and OK Computer by Radiohead.
Achtung Baby has become seventh studio album by U2. Released in 1991, it has sold 18 million copies worldwide and produced the hit singles One, Mysterious Ways and The Fly.
Speaking about U2 success, Spin Magazine editor Charles Aaron said: «Unlike Radiohead with OK Computer and Kid A, U2 took their post-industrial, trad-rock disillusionment not as a symbol of overall cultural malaise, but as a challenge to buck up and transcend».
U2 last album No Line On The Horizon hit the stores in February 2009. The band’s next studio effort Songs Of Ascent is set to be released this year.
