Biography

Artist and producer Adrian Thaws, more known as Tricky, was born in England in 1968 into the family with international roots - including Jamaican, Spanish, British and other heritages. Tricky's father left his mother, Maxine Quaye, before the son was born. She committed suicide of desperation, when the boy was only four. Tricky grew up with his grandmother, who let him miss school classes and watch horror movies on the TV instead. At the age fifteen, he already wrote verses. At seventeen, the future artist was taken to prison - soon he was released, but Tricky gave himself a word that he would never come back to jail. In late 80s, the singer became the member of The Wild Bunch, which later was reformed in Massive Attack. Tricky rapped on their debut album Blue Lines in 1991. He made an appearance on their second long-play Protection. The artist did not like the commercial side of the project. Besides, the other Massive Attack members did not show interest in his creativity. Tricky recorded his first single Aftermath independently in 1993, and soon he got a contract for the solo disc.
